About SDInternet

I created this site as a web log, a place to record my thoughts and experiences in the internet world. I wouldn't be able to solve half my programming or marketing related issues if it wasn't for the wealth of information available online. So this is my chance to give something back and maybe even make a little bit of a name for my self in this industry.
Personally
Who am I? I was born in the Midlands UK, spent my growing up years in Yorkshire and since leaving school I've lived in various places throughout the UK. Currently living in Dorset but have concrete plans to head over the channel to France/Italy/Spain and live the life of a nomad!
Professionally
Professionally, I started on the world wide web back in 2000. At that time, I started off as a web designer for an Internet marketing company. It soon became apparent that scripting and databases would be the way forward, so I learned ASP and Microsoft Access. While still at the internet marketing company I created their customer database system and also developed a system that integrated them into the Realnames platform as one of the few authorised partners. ASP and Microsoft Access just wasn't robust enough to run high usage or data critical applications so PHP and MySQL was added to my skill set.
Naturally, working for an internet marketing company it wasn't long before I became interested in search engine optimisation. Months of research in webmasterworld, reading of Google patents and keeping a close eye on my employers SEO successes and failures gave me an excellent grounding in search engine marketing.
Then sometime in 2004 after realising there was more to the world then working 9-5 for another company I decided to branch out on my own and created a number of Overture partnered web directories and used my search marketing knowledge to successfully promote them and generated a sizeable income.
Sometime in 2006 Google dropped directories from its organic results, since 90% of the traffic came from Google's organic search results our revenue dried up. So I moved to doing freelance work in Dorset which suddenly turned into a 9-5 job doing web/database development and SEO for a local company.
What next?
I plan to continue with my 9-5 job until 21/12/07 and then in late December I'm off to Europe. While travelling around Europe I plan to do some freelance SEO and web development work to pay the bills. I will also work on my own affiliate marketing ventures with a view to create a passive income that will fund my nomad lifestyle.
If anyone needs my SEO/development services or wishes me to work on a joint venture then don't hesitate to get in touch.
